Earning Technical PDUs for PMP®, PMI-ACP® and PMI-PBA® Certifications

In this blog, I am providing ways to earn PDUs under Technical category of Talent Triangle.

What are Technical PDUs:
Technical skills represent topics of PMIs certificate within the project, program, and portfolio management. When you earn technical PDUs, these are always applicable to your PMP® exam but the reverse may not correct.

For example, if you are PMI-ACP® and PMP® certified, your technical PDUs in Agile topics will also count for PMP® certification. PDUs related to the PMP® certification topics, may not get counted for your PMI-ACP® certificate.

Here I am listing some of the PMP® certification topics can be included in Technical Project Management (but not limited to)

  • Data gathering techniques
  • Data Modelling
  • Earned Value Management
  • Project Schedule Management
  • Project Scope Management
  • Project Budget and Cost Estimation
  • Requirement Management and Traceability
  • Project Risk Management
  • Project Governance

Following are topics which may come both in PMP® and PMI-ACP® certification (but not limited to)

  • Sprint Backlog Management

How to earn Technical PDUS?
There are many ways to earn Technical PDUs.

  • Reading Books: You may read books related to the any of the areas listed above for PMP®, PMI-ACP® and PMI-PBA® certification. You can include books in your reading list in case you like reading to enhance your knowledge.
    • For PMP® certification, following books are considered top books based on the alignment with PMP® certification  technical areas (but not limited to):
      • PMP® Exam Prep, Eighth Edition: Rita’s Course
      • Head First PMP® Exam: A Brain-Friendly Guide to Passing the Project Management Professional Exam
      • The PMP® Exam: How to Pass on Your First Tryby Andy Crowe
      • PMP® Exam study guide by Kim Heldman
  • For PMI-ACP® Exam, you may pick books from these list of recommended books
  • For PMI-PBA® Exam, you may pick books from these list of PMI recommended books

Note: You can earn 1 PDU for each hour you spend in reading Technical content. You can report these PDUs under Read category of Education PDUs. You can refer my blog on “How to report Read PDUs”, which will assist you in reporting PDUs

  • Watch Videos: You can earn Technical PDUs by watching pre-recorded webinars or videos relevant to Technical areas. Here, I am providing my ever-growing playlist which can be used in earning Technical PDUs

Note: You can earn 1 PDU for each hour you spend in learnings through these online and digital mediums. You can report these PDUs under ‘Online and Digital Media’ category of Education PDUs.
